When Prohibition Ended in the 1930s
The Arthashastra references institutions where ready food was sold in historical India. Prior to being referred to as “restaurants” these consuming institutions assumed regional names reminiscent of “eating house” in New York Metropolis, “restorator” in Boston, or “victualling house” in other areas.
